School Registration Forms Available - Registration this Thursday

Registration day for Immanuel's 2013-2014 school year will be held Thursday, May 16th. Parents can come to the school office/conference room area to register their child(ren) during the following time slots that day: 7:45-8:15am, 2:45-3:15pm and 7:15-8:00pm. Registration forms are available below, so parents can fill them out prior to coming to registration.

Kindergarten Open House this Sunday!

Trusting Hearts Preschool Now Enrolling

Trusting Hearts Preschool is accepting registrations for the 2013-2014 school year. A child must be age 3 by September 1st for the 3-year-old preschool program (Tuesdays & Thursdays) and age 4 by September 1st for 4-year-old preschool (Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays). We will also be offering after school care until 6pm.

Basketball Schedule Updates

There have been some dates changed recently for a couple of our Immanuel basketball games.

Our Dec. 21st games at Bethany Lutheran School, Manitowoc have been rescheduled for earlier in that week. Our girls' teams will be playing at Bethany on Tuesday, Dec. 18th, with the B team game at 5pm and the A team game at 6pm. Our boys' B team will play at Bethany that Thursday, Dec. 20th at 5pm.

Also, as noted elsewhere, our Boys' A team is combined with First German's A team this year, and will be playing First German's Division 2 basketball schedule for this season (the other Immanuel teams are in Division 1). You may see this schedule of games on the Lakeshore Lutheran League website; when there, choose to open or download the Div. 2 basketball schedule.

Everyone is Invited to Pioneer Game Night on Monday

Monday, December 3rd, is the annual Pioneer Christmas game night. Everyone is welcome to come and play games, sing Christmas carols and enjoy some light refreshments down in the church Fellowship Hall. We are asking that each Pioneer family bring 2 dozen cookies to the event. The games will start at 3:15pm and end at 5pm. Invite your parents, grandparents, neighbors!

Saturday Fun - Church Decorating & Live Nativity

Come help decorate the church for Christmas on Saturday, December 1st at 2pm. We'll have Christmas music playing to help us get in the spirit of the season. With enough help, the decorating should be done by 4pm so everyone can head to Two Rivers to see the live nativity downtown sponsored by St. John's, Two Rivers, starting at 4:30pm and continuing until 7:30pm.

Join Us for Trivia Night Nov. 10th!

Don’t miss this highly anticipated event: Immanuel’s 1st Annual Trivia Night! Partners in Education (PIE) will be hosting a Trivia Night on Saturday, November 10, starting at 7pm in the church basement. Gather up a team of up to 6 fun-loving and hopefully smart(!) people. Feel free to bring snacks/drinks for your table and anything else to help your team have fun! (Team hats? Team shirts?) Participation costs $60 per table, which will be collected on Trivia Night and will benefit our school’s accelerated reader program and music curriculum.

This is an adult only event and you are welcome to invite non-Immanuel friends and family to join your team. Electronic (cheating) devices will be checked at the door—brains only please! Individuals looking to join a team please contact me. Volleyball Tournament at MLHS This Weekend

Our girls' A Team is competing in the end-of-season Lakeshore Lutheran League Volleyball Tournament at MLHS this Saturday, Oct. 13th. Our girls' first match in pool play is at approximately 9:15am against St. Paul's Lutheran School of Howards Grove, followed by a match at approximately 10:30am vs. St. John's, Two Rivers, with our final match of pool play at approximately 11:15am vs. St. Paul's, Algoma. The tournament will then be run in a two-tier bracket format after the results of pool play are tallied. See a full tournament schedule and brackets by clicking here.

Thirteen Lutheran grade schools from northeast Wisconsin are participants in the tournament, which runs from 9am until about 4pm Saturday. The championship and consolation games are set for approximately 3:20pm Saturday.

Come cheer your Hornet team! Concessions will be available throughout the day at MLHS.

School Visitation Days on Tuesday and Wednesday

On October 9th and 10th we will open our doors to all parents, grandparents, congregation members, and anyone interested in our school. Participate in a devotion. Hear about the civil war. Listen to the praises of our children as they sing hymns to the Lord. Our school day begins at 8:00am and ends at 3:00pm.

Sunday School Opening Fiesta this Sunday!

Kids age 3 through 8th grade, join us for our Sunday School Fiesta this Sunday! It's our opening day of Sunday School and we're having a Mexican fiesta to learn more about our chosen mission field for the year: Mission to the Children in northern Mexico.

We'll have a devotion and enjoy Mexican games and treats. The kids will also make a coin box as a craft project to use throughout the year at home to collect their mission offerings for Mission to the Children. Fill our pinata at Sunday School with your mission offerings and we'll have a fun time later in the year breaking it open to see how much we've donated!

We'll have a registration table this Sunday - you can register for Sunday School at that time. Parents or Grandparents, come down starting at 9 a.m. to register your children before attending the Open Forum in church, or stay and join us for the morning!

Sunday School will be studying lessons from the New Testament throughout the year. We'll also have Fun Days and worship service singing opportunities throughout the year.

Ms. Dietrich's Trip to Africa - Blog Entries Here

Our 2nd grade teacher, Ms. Laura Dietrich, took a mission trip to Africa this summer to teach computer classes and English classes at the Lutheran Bible Institute in the country of Malawi. She and her fellow Kingdom Worker, Elizabeth Krahn, kept a very interesting blog of their activities for the approximately seven weeks they were there.

Join Pioneers!

Lutheran Pioneers will be starting up again on September 10th at 3:15pm till 5:15pm. Pioneers is for boys and girls K-8th grade. (Visit www.lutheranpioneers.org or www.lgp.org for more information.) First Day of School and Opening Service Aug. 28th

Our first day of school for the 2012-2013 school year will be on Tuesday, August 28th. We will begin our school year with an opening service at 8:15am in the church. All parents, relatives, friends, and congregation members are welcome to attend.

Curriculum and Technology News for the New School Year

Curriculum
We have updated two areas of curriculum over the past few months. In our K-2 math curriculum will now be using Saxon Math. This means that we will have Saxon as our main math resource for grades K-8.

We are also implementing a new English curriculum for grades K-3. These grades will now use the Shurley Method of English. This program uses songs to help the children learn the different grammar rules. Each year we plan to add this program to another grade until we implement it throughout the K-8 program.

Technology
As we continue to work to keep our school up to date on technology, we are adding a movable computer lab to our program. This lab will include 15 notebook computers with a rolling cart. The cart is set up to allow us to charge all 15 notebooks at the same time. The lab will give us the opportunity to remain in our classrooms and give each student access to our network and the internet. We are very excited to offer this new technology to our students to help prepare them for the future.

Ms. Dietrich to Take Mission Trip to Malawi, Africa

Our 2nd grade teacher, Ms. Laura Dietrich, will be spending 7 weeks this summer in Malawi, Africa on a WELS Kingdom Workers mission trip. Her time will primarily be spent teaching a computer class to students at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Lilongwe, Malawi. These pre-seminary students are from Zambia and Malawi and are studying to become pastors in their own countries.

Laura relates, "I’m so excited to be a part of this mission. It’s something that is really important to me. My dad was a missionary in Zambia, Africa so to be going back to the mission there is an amazing opportunity. Even though Malawi is halfway across the world, the mission of our churches is the same. We want to spread HIS word to all people."

We at Immanuel have a wonderful opportunity to become involved in this mission trip, too! While in Malawi, Ms. Dietrich will be updating a daily blog that all of us will be able to read, and she'll be taking and posting pictures of her surroundings and experiences. As Laura says, "We will all be part of the mission in Africa, even though you will be thousands of miles away. What an amazing opportunity this will be for all of us!" We will post a link to her blog on our church and school websites as soon as it is up-and-running at the beginning of July.

Another way to become involved is to help defray expenses involved with this mission trip. To do so, please visit the Kingdom Workers Malawi Mission Trip website to make your donation. Ms. Dietrich is hoping to raise $4,000 to help support this mission trip ministry in Malawi. Alternately, you can contribute at any of three worship services at Immanuel in May. We will be having door offerings on May 20th, May 27th, and also at the school Graduation service on May 31st, which will be used to support this mission trip ministry.

Immanuel Graduates Receive Top Academic Honors at MLHS

Two Immanuel Lutheran School Class of 2008 graduates have been named valedictorian and salutatorian of the Manitowoc Lutheran High School (MLHS) Class of 2012.

Meghan Kappelman will serve as valedictorian. She is the daughter of John and Chris Kappelman, Francis Creek. Meghan is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, is active in Immanuel's Youth Group and has also assisted with Immanuel's summer VBS program throughout her high school years. Meghan also received a Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Excellence Scholarship. She has been accepted into the Honors Program at UW-Madison, where she will be majoring in biomedical science.

Audra Winter has been chosen as salutatorian. Her parents are Tom and Ann Winter, Manitowoc. Audra was also named a National Merit Scholarship finalist. An Immanuel member, she has been active in Immanuel's Youth Group. Audra has been accepted into the Honors Program at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities; her major is undecided.

Congratulations on your achievements, Meghan and Audra! This is the third year in a row that graduates of Immanuel have achieved one or both of the two top academic honors at MLHS. We praise God for the gifts and determination he has bestowed on these students, and ask Him to bless their future endeavors.

Academic Fair Results

On Saturday, March 17th, our students participated in the MLHS Academic Fair for all area Lutheran grade schools, which included math (team and individual) competitions, a spelling competition, a team academic bowl competition, and an exhibit of the students' art and social science projects.

Out of 16 teams in the Academic Bowl competition, Immanuel's team took 1st in this tournament-style quiz bowl program. Our math teams placed 6th and 10th out of 29 teams. We had many top finishes in the spelling competition, and one of our students garnered the title of overall spelling champion out of the 155 students who took the spelling test. The Forensics competition saw 6 of our students awarded a 1st place ribbon.

We also had many entrants in the Art and Social Studies Fairs. We thank God for the gifts he has given these students. We also want to show our appreciation to all of the students who worked so hard in preparing for this day filled with many challenges and rewards.

Congrats to Our Spelling Bee Qualifiers

Riley Brice (8th grade) and Isaac Wernecke (5th grade) won our school spelling bee for grades 5-8. They qualified to compete in a regional spelling bee that was held at Trinity Lutheran School in Kiel, WI, on Friday, March 9th. We are proud of both students for representing Immanuel and our Lord at the regional bee at Trinity.
